For colleges
External, blind assessment your students can put on a portfolio
Art, design and media students judged by working professionals who have never met them, against criteria published in advance.
Why an outside panel is worth having
Internal assessment is unavoidable, and internal assessment is known. Your students are marked by staff who taught them, who know their history and who will teach them again next term. That is normal, but it means a grade says something about a relationship as well as about a piece of work.
An external panel that cannot see a name, a year group or an institution says something narrower and, for a portfolio, more useful: this is what the work looked like to a professional who had no context at all.
What we can run
A department competition. Your students, your brief, judged by our panel, with results returned to the department and to each student.
An inter-college competition. Several institutions entering the same brief and ranked together, with each college able to see its own students’ results.
Nominated entries into an open contest. The lightest option — you nominate students into a contest already running and they compete in the Adult division.
Your faculty as judges. Staff with professional practice can sit on Kwickdo panels for contests their own students are not entering. It is a credential for them and it strengthens the panel.
What students get
- A score against each published criterion — feedback, not just a placing
- A certificate that links back to a page confirming it is genuine
- A permanent public result page for a portfolio or a job application
- A free profile to publish finished work and projects
- Prize money where they place
What the department gets
A results page you can link to from your own site, performance across the cohort, and selected student work featured in the season e-magazine. For students aged 16 and 17 the same parental consent rules apply as everywhere else on Kwickdo.
Academic integrity
AI-generated work is prohibited and disqualified. We can ask for process evidence where originality is questioned. Scores cannot be edited once submitted — the database enforces that, not a policy — and judging decisions are final.
What it costs
Quoted per department, based on cohort size and format. Tell us roughly how many students and what you want to run, and we will come back with a number rather than a brochure.
Common questions
Can this contribute to formal assessment?
That is your call and your institution’s regulations. Most departments use it alongside internal assessment rather than in place of it.
Do you sign data processing agreements?
Yes, and we will answer a data protection questionnaire before you commit. See our privacy policy.
Can students keep their results private?
Yes. Publication of a name alongside a result is opt-in for every entrant, students included.
Which disciplines can you judge?
Currently fine art, illustration and craft. Design, photography, writing, film and music are planned — tell us what you need and we will say honestly whether we have the panel for it yet.
